New Year, New Me? Prioritizing Self-Love and a Thriving Sex Life!

Cheers to a sexier year!

When we welcome the new year, it's often time to welcome a new version of ourselves – a better version of ourselves.

It can be terrific to strive towards a better version of yourself. Still, I personally think it often sounds very pressing: now I'm going to get better, I'm going to sleep earlier, I'm going to read five books a month, I'm going to stop looking at social media, I'm going to exercise an hour a day, I'm going to have 45 minutes of self-care every day, I'm going to... Who doesn't get stressed out by that?!

It can of course be challenging and exciting, but it can also lead to such pressure that it is set up to fail from the very beginning.

That's why I rather think like this: What do you need more (or less) of this year? What do you want to feel this year? What can help you feel that way?

As I work as a sex counsellor, I want to focus more on pleasure, self-love and wonderful sex life. If your goal is to feel more of all that, I have some tips and questions to ask yourself so you can be inspired to make 2024 the year you prioritise yourself, your self-love, and a healthy sex life.

Self-love – The cornerstone of a healthy sex life

It all starts with how we see ourselves. Self-love isn't just a trendy hashtag; it's a lifestyle. It's about accepting and loving yourself, regardless of your faults and flaws. When you feel comfortable in your own skin, your sexual confidence increases and allows you to be more present and pleasurable in your intimate relationships.

To cultivate self-love, start by doing things that make you feel good. It can be as simple as taking a long walk, meditating, or writing down three things you appreciate about yourself each day. Embrace your body by practising positive body language – stand in front of the mirror and praise the parts of you that you love the most.

Communication and Openness - Keys to a Better Sex Life

One of the most essential steps to a thriving sex life is communication. It's about being open with your partner about your desires, boundaries and fantasies. An honest conversation can be incredibly liberating and lead to deeper understanding and intimacy. If communication feels difficult, start small. Share a simple wish or a small change you want to make in the bedroom.

Explore and Experiment - The Path to Sexual Satisfaction

Dare to explore your sexuality. This could mean trying new positions, experimenting with sex toys or exploring erotic literature. Remember that there is no "right" or "wrong" way to explore your sexuality as long as it feels right for you and is done in a safe and consensual way.

Take Care of Your Body and Mind

Your physical and mental health plays a significant role in your sex life. Exercise, balanced diet and adequate sleep can all contribute to increased energy and libido. Mental health is also crucial – stress and anxiety can affect your sexual desire and ability to enjoy yourself.

Let 2024 be the year you take control of your sex life by loving yourself, communicating openly, exploring new things, and taking care of your body and mind. You deserve a healthy and satisfying sex life. So, embrace the change, dare to explore, and don't forget: the most important relationship you'll ever have is the one with yourself.
